Shweta Basu Prasad was born in Jamshedpur but migrated to Mumbai where she studied commerce at the R. N. Podar High School, Santacruz in Mumbai.
Later she completed her graduation in mass media and journalism. After that, she wrote columns for Indian Express.
Career
Shweta Basu Prasad is an actress. She started her acting career at an early age. At first, she started as a TV serial child artist but soon moved to Bollywood.
Her debut Bollywood movie Makdee was a super-duper hit and she got the National Award for Best Child Actress in 2002.
After that, she got offers from television series such as Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and Karishma Kaa Karishma. In 2005, she appeared in the Iqbal movie with Shreyas Talpade and Naseeruddin Shah.
She won the Best Supporting Actress Award at the 5th Karachi International Film Festival for Iqbal.
After the Iqbal movie, she took a break and focused on her studies and did her graduation in Journalism and Mass Media. Later she made a documentary on Indian Classical Music featuring the legends of the music industry.
Roots, this documentary features music giants like A R Rahman, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Vishal Bhardwaj, Amit Trivedi, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, and Shubha Mudgal among many other legends.
She is trained in playing the Sitar, is a classical music enthusiast.
Shweta made her debut in Telugu cinema in 2008, with the film Kotha Bangaru Lokam. She has made eight movies in Tamil, Telugu, and Bengali so far.
